Visual Arts and Design Portfolio Requirements
Portfolios are required for admission to the four main concentrations within the Department of Visual Arts and Design: Film, Graphic Design, Interactive and Game Design, and Studio Art. Those wishing to pursue Art Education may submit a portfolio in Graphic Design or Studio Art for scholarship consideration.
Film
A Portfolio Review is Required
In order to be admitted as a Film major at ³Ô¹ÏÍø you must submit a portfolio for review. You may submit your portfolio digitally. Please do not send physical video/film to the department.
We prefer that you upload the video files of your best work to a folder on Dropbox or Google Drive and share the single link on your registration form. You should select your best works to submit. Quality over quantity!
Submission Requirements
Students must have applied to ³Ô¹ÏÍø in order to submit portfolio materials, however not yet be admitted.
Personal Statement (750 Words Max)
The B.F.A. in Film at Florida Southern aims to cultivate the next generation of responsible and unique storytellers. With this in mind, choose one of the following prompts:
- Share your background with us and how that influences the stories you tell and want to tell.
- Briefly describe how you will contribute to the culture of storytelling at Florida Southern.
- What department in film interests you the most? How will pursuing a B.F.A. in Film at Florida Southern help to fulfill your career aspirations?
Portfolio
Please submit at least two of the following:
- Video/Film Work - one project or a collection of multiple films. This should also detail which role(s) you served on set. (15 min. TOTAL runtime)
- Creative Written Work: screenplay or short story/etc. (25 pages max.)
- Other Visual Work (paintings, drawings, photography, etc.)
Note: You may submit a combination of work from the above categories, but please only submit your best for each category.
Graphic Design
A Portfolio Review is Required
In order to be admitted to the Department of Visual Arts and Design at ³Ô¹ÏÍø in Graphic Design (Bachelor of Fine Arts/Bachelor of Arts), you must submit a portfolio for review. Your portfolio is automatically used for scholarship consideration.
We prefer that you upload images of your best work to a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox and add the link in the provided space on the registration form. Please do not send physical artwork in the mail. If you would like to set up a virtual portfolio review, one or more of our professors would be happy to go through your portfolio with you. You should select fifteen to twenty of your best images to submit. We also suggest that you include in your portfolio works from each of the general categories and from as many of the subcategories as possible:

Drawing
- Contour Line
- Modeling/Value Drawing Perspective
- Still Life
- Figure Drawing

Design

- Linear Mark-Making
Although our portfolio requirements are prescriptive, rather than creating new or additional work to fill in specific categories, we encourage you to send images from your existing work that matches our requests as best you can. We like to see variety and quality.
Interactive and Game Design
A Portfolio Review is Required
In order to be admitted as an Interactive and Game Design (Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Fine Arts) major at ³Ô¹ÏÍø you must submit a portfolio for review.
We prefer that you upload images of your best work to a folder on Google Drive or Dropbox and share the link in this registration form. Please do not send physical artwork in the mail.
If you would like to set up a virtual portfolio review, one or more of our professors would be happy to go through your portfolio with you. You should select fifteen to twenty of your best creative works to submit. We suggest that you include in your portfolio works from the general categories and from as many of the subcategories as possible:
