These are smaller groups that are more therapeutic focused. Please contact The Counseling Center for information concerning meeting dates and times.

Intersection of Mental Health and Spirituality: Loving Yourself

In this group we will discuss how Self-Love is both a spiritual and mental/emotional strength. We will discover how self-love is vital to strong mental and spiritual health as well as strong interpersonal relationships. We will also address the notion that self-love is arrogance or selfishness. Learning to love yourself prevents the need to seek outside validation and enables you to love others more freely. We hope you will join us!

Food, Mood and Movement

This open group is directed toward providing students with productive information regarding how their nutritional choices affect their emotions, moods and actions. The group will incorporate low impact and easily accessible movement (exercise) in an effort to help students make sustainable and lasting lifestyle changes. Students will be provided guidance on how to use available food on campus to make enjoyable and nutritious choices. Students will learn strategies to improve their overall wellness.

Artful Minds: Creative Expression Group

Join us for Artful Minds, an art-centered group facilitated by the Counseling Center, designed to provide students with a creative outlet to explore and express their emotions. Through various art activities and guided discussions, participants can enhance their self-awareness, reduce stress, and connect with peers in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. No prior art experience is necessary — just bring your creativity and an open mind!

Drumbeat

Drumbeat is an evidenced based group intervention designed to help individuals develop social and emotional skills. It is a 6-8 week program centered on relationship themes, anxiety management, emotional regulation and holistic wellness. It is a closed group that cooperatively develops a structure, guidelines, and expectation beginning with the first session. Over the course of the group, clients will be able to connect verbally and nonverbally with other participants through therapeutic rhythms that are proven to affect positive change. Additional benefits of drumbeat therapy were documented and discovered in a 2016 study which include: sense of belonging, access to parts of the brain for healing and mindfulness and connection with a spiritual source or higher power.

Green and Serene

This is a self-care focused group. We will engage in positive psychology and wellness practices surrounding grounding, guided meditation, and connection to something outside of ourselves.

Goals for the group will include decrease in isolation, depressive and anxiety symptoms. Increased connection to nature and campus/social needs. Health Benefits: sunshine, fresh air, engagement with others, cognitive stimulation, movement.

Run-a-Moc: Couch to 5K Walk/ Run Training Program

Wanting to incorporate more physical activity in your life? Starting a journey to conquer your first 5K race is a transformative experience that blends physical accomplishment with personal growth. The journey not only strengthens your body but also instills confidence and a sense of achievement. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone looking to rekindle their passion for running, this 10-week training group led by a certified running coach will help you gain knowledge, tips, and motivation to triumphantly cross that 5K finish line. Please join members of the FSC Wellness Center and Counseling Center in a collaboration to make strides towards your health and wellness goals!

The Counseling Center is excited to offer outreach presentations to meet the needs of your classroom or student organization.

Balancing Your Wellness

Holistic wellness is the conscious process to unlock your full potential. This workshop will review the FSC Wellness Wheel and the importance of keeping a balance between the different dimensions (social, emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and financial/occupational) for optimal living.

Mocs CARE

This program is for faculty members, staff or student organizations to assist in identifying the warning signs of a student in distress, establishing a dialogue with the identified individual, and resources that may assist you in supporting the student/peer. This program is scheduled to be presented virtually or in person upon request to any department of student organization.

If you have a specific topic, you would like covered that you do not see listed, please submit a request and we will attempt to accommodate based on availability.

Due to the high demand for services, we ask that you allow for a minimum two-week notice. To schedule an outreach presentation please email your request to counsel@flsouthern.edu. Include the setting of the presentation (classroom, study organization meeting, etc.), the topic you would like, expected group size, and timeframe available. Please note, most presentations require at least 1 hour.
