Wellness Student Employment

The Wellness Center provides many opportunities for current students.

General Requirements for Employment

All FSC Wellness staff members are required to fulfill the general requirements as a condition of employment. Staff members who do not meet the minimum competencies at any time will be removed from the schedule and placed on probation until the necessary classes are obtained. All training will be obtained during fall training, prior to hire, or within 30 days of employment.

Job Descriptions

Lifeguard

Lifeguards supervise the conduct of all pool patrons and ensure a safe aquatic recreation environment. They respond to any emergency within the aquatic facility, and assist with any emergency within the HWC if necessary. Applicants must be qualified for job placement through the Financial Aid Office. Current certifications in Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED administration from the American Red Cross are required to qualify for the position. This training is available on site in August prior to the start of the academic year.

Water Safety Instructor

Water Safety Instructors teach swimming and water safety to participants registered for the program. Summer swimming lessons for children are the primary need for this position; however, swim instruction is offered to the FSC student body during the academic year upon request. Summer positions do not require work program placement, but academic year positions do require placement through Financial Aid.

Waterfront Attendant

Waterfront Attendants supervise the conduct of patrons using the waterfront facility on Lake Hollingsworth, keep facility usage records, and provide excellent customer service. In addition to caring for the facility and equipment, staff are trained to respond in an emergency to stranded participants on the lake. Waterfront Attendants must maintain American Red Cross Adult CPR and First Aid certifications.

Climbing Wall Attendant

This part time position requires the selected candidates to have a general background in rock climbing, climbing techniques, an understanding of associated equipment maintenance and customer service skills. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the climbing wall and bouldering area. Climbing wall attendants will properly outfit and instruct participants to facilitate safe climbing practices. Climbing wall attendants are also required to maintain, sanitize, and properly rotate climbing equipment as well as enforce HWC policies. Climbing Wall attendants should make everyone that walks through the door feel welcome and comfortable regardless of physical or climbing ability and should act as advocates for wellness to encourage an inclusive environment where all patrons can find their fit.

Front Desk & Fitness Attendant(1 position)

The Front Desk Attendant is the first point of contact for everyone entering the Wellness Center. They monitor anyone entering or exiting the HWC, and enforce the Wellness Center’s policies, procedures and regulations. Attendants are also responsible for answering the telephones, operating the cash register, checking bicycles in and out, and providing exceptional customer service to our patrons. Fitness Attendants are an integral part of the Wellness Center's Fitness Staff. This part-time position requires a general background in weight lifting and spotting techniques, an understanding of equipment maintenance and quality customer service skills.

Personal Trainer

Personal trainers manage, administer and implement fitness assessments, training, and consultations. They review wellness questionnaires and provide feedback. Personal trainers serve as a resource to all patrons in regards to the wellness programs and incentives that FSC has to offer, as well as research any health related questions that may arise. Personal trainers are also responsible for marketing and customer service related to the fitness area of the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center.

Intramural Supervisor

Intramural Supervisors are student staff members who report to the Assistant Director of Intramurals and Facilities. Supervisors are responsible for overseeing all areas of intramural sports and other intramural activities. They help maintain a safe and pleasant atmosphere for intramural participants, staff and spectators. Supervisors are also responsible for Intramural Officials and complete game control.

Intramural Official

Intramural Officials are student staff members who report to the Assistant Director of Intramurals/Facilities and Intramural Supervisors. They are responsible for participant supervision, scorekeeping, officiating games, risk management issues, field maintenance, policy enforcement and documentation. Officials must also have quality customer service skills and sufficient sports knowledge. Officiating experience is preferred, but not required.

Group Exercise Instructor

Group Exercise Instructors ensure a safe environment for all participants while leading and educating participants during classes. Instructors have a complete and thorough understanding of all guidelines concerning the group exercise program. They serve as a resource to all patrons in regards to the wellness programs and incentives that FSC has to offer, as well as research any health related questions that may arise. Group Exercise Instructors are also responsible for marketing and customer service related to the fitness area of the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center.

Head Guard

Experienced lifeguards with at least one semester of lifeguarding for the Wellness Center are encouraged to apply for the Head Guard position, a supervisory position that works with the Wellness Center’s Aquatics and Waterfront programs. Head Guards are responsible for ensuring appropriate shift coverage, maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons, and communicating staff and safety concerns. Head Guards are given additional training opportunities to gain experience for their position.
