³Ô¹ÏÍø Welcomes Dr. Lori Rakes as New Dean of Education

³Ô¹ÏÍø is pleased to announce the appointment of as Dean of Education. As an esteemed educator, Dr. Rakes brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of education to her new role.
Dr. Rakes is an associate professor with a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Elementary Education from the University of South Florida. She has spent 20 years sharing her knowledge and passion for education in the classroom, earning her the National Board Teacher Certification in 2005. Dr. Rakes was also selected as Cleveland Court Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2001 and 2011.
Dr. Rakes's commitment to education is exhibited through many achievements throughout her career, including recently being named the Nina B. Hollis Endowed Chair in Education at ³Ô¹ÏÍø. Additionally, she received the FSC Miller Distinguished Faculty Award in 2020 and the Dr. Mary Virginia Peaslee Educator Makes A Difference Award in 2013.
In February 2022, Dr. Rakes worked alongside colleagues to publish a study on "First Semester Clinical Experiences: Adapting to Pandemic Guidelines Through the Eyes of Preservice Teachers." This research provided valuable insight into navigating educational challenges during the pandemic. It was later presented at the National Association of Professional Development Schools Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. Dr. Rakes also demonstrated her goal for transformative education, presenting "Redesigning Early Field Study Experiences to Include an E-Learning Model" to the National Association for Professional Development Schools.
Beyond impressive accolades and publications, Dr. Rakes enjoys music, spending time with family, and being involved with her church community. These interests are reflected in her work, as they are translated into her efforts to create a positive and enriched learning environment.
"Teaching preservice teachers provides an opportunity for continual learning, sharing, and growth. One of my hopes in working in higher education is to instill a love and passion of learning and teaching in my students, as I share my own passion with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children," said Lori Rakes.
