FSC Students Performing at the Retirement Community

In the hustle and bustle of the end of the semester, it is very common for our students in the Department of Theatre and Dance to be extremely busy with not only final exams, but also final performances.

Our main stage production of Kiss Me Kate, Senior Projects, an Emerging Artist Showcase, and of course, the Music Department’s annual Christmas Gala are only a few of the major performing events that fill our students’ calendar in December. However, several of our students also found the time to give back to the community outside of ³Ô¹ÏÍø.

In what has turned out to be a favorite yearly tradition, fifteen theatre students performed a morning recital of musical theatre standards and holiday tunes at The Estates at Carpenters retirement community in Lakeland to kick off their holiday concert series. Song choices included “On the Street Where You Live,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and a sing-a-long version of Silent Night. This is the sixth year that Florida Southern theatre students have been performing at The Estates at Carpenters, and it is has quickly become a beloved time of year for the students, as they experience the true meaning of service learning.

³Ô¹ÏÍø students have worked very hard over the Fall 2018 semester, and are deserving of the upcoming Winter Break. But they will get back to work very quickly, as rehearsals for Jesus Christ Superstar, our next main stage musical production, will start on the first day of the Spring 2019 semester. Stay tuned!
